The "Unix" platforms use a POSIX interface to the OS. This is an IEEE
standard which is now an international standard. They use an X Windows
interface to the windowing system. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong,
but I believe the X Windows network protocol is a IETF standard. I'm less
sure about the various programming interfaces to X Windows.
